Oxiran and Corning® Advanced-Flow™ Reactors Celebrate Establishment of Application Qualified Lab

This new lab is the first AQL to focus on ethoxylation, a highly complex production process that helps create household cleaning products and pharmaceuticals

Yangzhou, China – Oxiran Holding Group Co., Ltd. and Corning Incorporated announced the establishment of the Oxiran-Corning® Advanced-Flow Reactors (AFR) Application Qualified Lab (AQL) at Oxiran Chemicals’ facility in the Jiangsu province in China. Application qualified labs enable AFR customers to effectively access continuous-flow demonstrations, experimental trials, feasibility testing, and chemical reaction process development.

This is the first AFR AQL focused on ethoxylation and related applications, which is a highly exothermic process that requires knowledge, experience, and purpose-built equipment to safely enable large-scale manufacturing for industrial needs. This lab joins a global network of more than fifteen AFR AQLs that are designed to provide customers with convenient access to AFR Technology.

Oxiran Chemicals focuses on the research, development, and production of high-end fine chemicals, and derivatives, based on ethylene oxide. Many of their products are used in infrastructure projects – such as high-speed railway lines, subway underground construction, airports, and expressways – as well as household cleaning products, pharmaceuticals, and many other fields.

“Oxiran Chemicals is an innovation-focused organization committed to ensuring individual well-being, and our work with Corning AFR has helped us accelerate the development and application of inherently safer production technology,” said Zhu Jianmin, chairman of Oxiran Holding Group Co., Ltd. “We are looking forward to continuing to work with Corning on future programs and flow-chemistry education as one of their Application Qualified Labs.”

Oxiran Chemicals first began working with Corning’s AFR team eight years ago, when Oxiran Chemicals installed a Corning G1 continuous flow platform to leverage continuous flow technology for intense chemical manufacturing processes. Since then, Corning and Oxiran have been committed working closely on technology development for more efficient production of ethoxylation derivatives using inherently safer technology. And, last year, Corning AFR signed a large-scale production agreement with Oxiran's joint venture Wuhan Jihechang New Materials Co., Ltd., and installed an AFR G5 production system, to support new material manufacturing for battery applications.

“We believe that the establishment the Oxiran-Corning AQL will help accelerate the development, application, and industrialization for manufacturing chemical compounds that are utilized in widely-used household or personal care products,” said Yi Jiang, division vice president of Corning Emerging Innovations Group, chairman of Corning Advanced-Flow Reactor Technology. “We are pleased to continue working with Oxiran Chemicals as they strive to become a world-class manufacturing of epoxy derived fine chemicals and other new materials.”

Oxiran Chemicals and Corning AFR will host joint flow-chemistry trainings and continuous flow process practice seminars to helps educate the next generation of chemistry and engineering experts on continuous flow technology.
