Corning and Fuzhou University Announce Advanced-Flow Reactor Qualified Lab
CORNING, N.Y. | Corning Incorporated | September 18, 2018

Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) announced today the opening of a Corning® Advanced-Flow™ reactor (AFR) qualified lab at Fuzhou University’s College of Chemical Engineering in Fuzhou, China.

This is Corning’s fourth such lab in China and the first at a Chinese university. The lab uses AFR technology to provide customers with continuous-flow demonstrations, experimental trials, feasibility testing, and chemical reaction process development. Corning has AFR qualified labs in the United States and Europe.

“Fuzhou University has successfully integrated a Corning G1 reactor in a continuous flow chemical process, and scaled up seamlessly to Corning G4 industrial production,” said Yi Jiang, business director, global Advanced-Flow reactors, and innovation officer, Corning Greater China. “We believe this collaboration will not only help the university advance its chemical processing efforts, but it will also help educate the next generation of chemical engineers.”

“We are excited about this strategic collaboration with Corning. This AFR qualified lab enables us to provide comprehensive services to the chemical industry with inherently safer and seamlessly scalable process solutions,” said Huang Zhigang, vice chancellor of Fuzhou University.

Advanced-Flow reactors, including photo reactors, are specially designed to enable the conversion of batch chemical processes to continuous processes using a much smaller footprint. They can also implement processes that enable easy, safe, and seamless transfer to industrial production. Corning’s reactors provide customers with cost-effective solutions, specialized engineering support, and process expertise.

“We are excited to be a leading player in this new era of inherently safer chemical processing technology,” Yi said. “Our collaboration with Fuzhou University supports our dedication to creating a safer work environment for students, scientists, and others using such products.”

Compared with traditional batch reactors, Corning’s reactors enable at least 100 times enhancement in mixing, 1,000 times improvement in heat transfer performance, and seamless, efficient scale-up from the lab to full-scale production of chemicals for the pharmaceutical, specialty, and fine chemical industries.
