Corning® Gorilla® Glass NBT™ Adopted by Dell for XPS, Inspiron, and Latitude Touch-Enabled PC Product Lines
Corning, NY | Corning Incorporated | January 07, 2014

CORNING, N.Y., January 7, 2014 -- Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) today announced Corning® Gorilla® Glass NBT™ – designed to help protect touch notebook displays from scratches and damage – has been adopted by Dell for several of its touch-enabled PCs, including the XPS, Inspiron, and Latitude series.

Corning will demonstrate the superior damage resistance of Corning® Gorilla® Glass NBT and showcase the Dell Latitude, and XPS touch-screen PCs with Windows 8.1 and Gorilla Glass NBT in Central Hall booth #11612 at the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

“For both commercial and consumer customers, Dell is committed to reliable products made with premium materials and thoughtful design for improved performance, durability and end-user experience,” said Sam Burd, vice president, Client Solutions Group, Dell.  “Integrating Corning Gorilla Glass NBT into our Dell XPS and select Dell Latitude and Dell Inspiron laptops delivers on this commitment with an industry-leading touch-enabled viewing experience.”

“We’ve been pleased to work with Dell to bring the scratch resistance and durability of Gorilla Glass NBT to their touch-enabled notebook products,” said James R. Steiner, senior vice president and general manager, Corning Specialty Materials, “The performance of Gorilla Glass NBT, in combination with innovative touch-enabled PC designs from Dell and operating system innovations from Microsoft, can deliver the thin, sleek, and reliable touch-based personal computers that consumers are looking for. We look forward to continued collaboration with Dell to bring the latest in cover-glass innovations to their touch-enabled PCs.”

With Windows 8.1, touch is the primary way consumers interact with PCs, subjecting these touchscreen displays to daily abuse from touching and swiping. This increases the potential for the cover glass to scratch. These types of scratches could cause conventional cover materials such as soda lime glass to crack and break. Corning Gorilla Glass NBT helps protect touch-enabled notebook displays with higher scratch resistance, reduced scratch visibility, and better retained strength if a scratch occurs.

“As Windows 8.1 delivers new touch experiences, we’re excited to partner with Dell and Corning to bring innovative, durable display solutions to great devices,” said Jordan Chrysafidis, vice president of Marketing, OEM Division, Microsoft Corp.
